Very deep red colour, black tones and very light orange rims. Its nice colour, brightness and powerful aromas are due to the high quality grapes that were used to make it. The oak barrel ageing given to this wine brings out ripe fruit, spices and a little vanilla. Santiago Ijalba and his son Roberto own and run this Bodega in the village of Gimileo 4 kilometers from Haro, the wine capital of the Rioja region. They follow the usual Rioja practice of using their own grapes supplemented by those of several contract growers. Tempranillo is the dominant grape but they also use small quantities of other Rioja red grapes, Garnacha, Graziano, and Mazuelo. This is a modern bodega but making both traditional and modern wines at the very pinnacle of Rioja wines.
